2024 Rice Neuro Transmitter Research Competition

How do you generate ideas in science? Scientists devote a significant amount of effort to analyzing the current state of knowledge as well as research done by other scientists addressing comparable issues. Successful scientists dedicate a significant amount of time to reading journal articles, which necessitates mastery of obtaining critical information from credible sources and explaining how these resources support the logic for their scientific queries. This data could generate new ideas and serve as a starting point for further research.

To encourage students to think like scientists, we invite high school students to demonstrate their

critical thinking abilities by creating a 36 x 48 poster answering the following prompt:

Using a neuroscience topic of your choice, summarize previous work, propose a hypothesis, and explain expected results and the potential impact of the study. Submissions should include these sections: introduction, hypothesis, expected results, discussion, and future directions. Submissions should also attempt to minimize excessive use of text and maximize visualizations of information and data to make the poster more readable. As a starting point, there is a list of sample topics posted below and several resources for finding previous research articles.

Deadline: August 26th
